Shaqodoon, Somali word for ' Job-Seeker' is an off-shoot of the 'highly rated' former EDC  'Somali Youth Livelihood Program' funded by USAID that provided Somali youth with greater opportunities to skill trainings, access to work,  internship and self-employment opportunities. Shaqodoon organization is registered in Somaliland, Puntland, Galmudug and South Central zone, having offices in Hargeisa and Mogadishu.

IPE/Shaqodoon workshop on waste recycling in Hargeisa

IPE Global in partnership with Shaqodoon organized workshop on 28th January 2013 at Maansoor Hotel. The workshop was for IPE/Shaqodoon to present draft strategy on waste recycling policies and the technologies in other countries.  The workshop is also intended to establish frame work to receive comments and feedback from all stake holders, such as municipality of Hargeisa, the world bank representative and other stakeholders.

IPE/Shaqodoon hold’s Solid waste management workshop
Shaqodoon and IPE Global organized workshop on 16th December at Maansoor Hotel. The workshop was for IPE/Shaqodoon to present draft strategy on solid waste management policies and frame work to receive comments and feedback from the mayor and other stakeholders.Mr. P U  Asnani a well-known international solid waste management expert with over 40 years expertise and member of the Institute of waste management, UK  presented to the stakeholders and briefly explained  his experience in solid waste management in India and 40 other countries around the world.

Asnani pointed out that the greatest danger in the absence of proper solid waste management is Hargeisa streets, road corners will be filled with waste, improperly disposed of in vacant land and door steps. All these, he explained is a serious health hazards apart from being eyesores. If they are not cleared regularly at the earliest, they invite host of problems including increasing insect vectors like flies, mosquitoes, etc., scavengers such as stray dogs and rats which spread dangerous diseases. It also generates bad odour and causes pollution. Asnani is working on development solid waste policies and legal frame that Somaliland governments can use through the World Bank funded project.
