Shaqodoon, Somali word for ' Job-Seeker' is an off-shoot of the 'highly rated' former EDC 'Somali Youth Livelihood Program' funded by USAID that provided Somali youth with greater opportunities to skill trainings, access to work, internship and self-employment opportunities. Shaqodoon organization is registered in Somaliland, Puntland, Galmudug and South Central zone, having offices in Hargeisa and Mogadishu.
The NGO continues skill trainings programs, prepare and link ‘Shaqodoon’ with the local business community, other potential employers and over and above encourage the youth to inculcate an entrepreneurial culture. |Registration of 6,000+ out of work and hard to reach youth begins|
Registration of hard to reach youth in selected districts in
Somaliland has begins on 31st December 2013. The aim of the registration is to
register 6,000 out of work and hard to reach youth to connect them information
on election process through their mobile phones. Once complete the total
registered youth under this project will total 17,000 youth. These youth will
be registered from Baligubadle, Galbiley, Odwayne and Caynaba towns within
Somaliland with special attention given to registration of females and those
that have low literacy rates, from minority groups and those that are excluded
from community activities.
Once registration is completed Shaqodoon will through mobile
technology educate the registered youth about election voting, lobby for youth
unemployment issues, communicate with youth and send out SMS surveys for the
Somaliland 2015 elections. Shaqodoon will develop SMS messages and record voice
messages that will reach youth directly in their mobile phones. The messages
will reach both those that are literate and those that have limited reading and
writing skills. The project is funded by NED.

large-scale competitions and events to cherish networking - gatherings, connect
participants to potential collaborators, mentors and even investors; introducing them to new possibilities and exciting opportunities.
The initiative launched in 2008 and has since grown to 125 countries—with
24,008 partner organizations planning 33,846 activities that directly engage
millions of participants every year.
Shaqodoon organizes First Somaliland Job Fair 2013
Shaqodoon Organization and steering committee consisting of Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Labor, Sony and ILO held the first national employment conference and job fair on 1-2 July 2013. Shaqodoon organized the Job Fair and ensured employers and jobseekers had met and networked under the same roof.
The Job Fair brought together different sectors of the Somali business community, local and international NGO showcasing and posting paid jobs, internships and trainings opportunities.
The job fair was well attended by youth and employers. The President of Somaliland H.E Ahmed Mohamed Silanyo attended the Job Fair and Conference.
The president was given lengthy tour on selection of employers and organizations exhibiting job and trainings training opportunities. The president spoke to hundreds of youth that attended the job fair.
Using Mobile Technology To Support Democracy Building
Shaqodoon Organization has held a workshop on 21th May to present the feedbacks data analysis they received from both domestic observers and public people from across the country on the Election Day and also indicate how mobile phone technology was useful in assisting and facilitating SONSAF for the November 2012 local government elections to get quicker response from field observers. Moreover, the workshop was participated by the Key election Stakeholders like Mr.Abdurrahman Mohamed Ismail a member of NEC National Election Commission, Mrs. Suad Abdi “Country Representative of Progressio”, Mohamed Saed from Sonsaf, Mr. Abdijalil Dahir from IRI and also civil society organizations took part the event such as Nagaad ,Sonyo, ANDP.
IPE/Shaqodoon workshop on waste recycling in Hargeisa
IPE Global in partnership with Shaqodoon organized workshop on 28th January 2013 at Maansoor Hotel. The workshop was for IPE/Shaqodoon to present draft strategy on waste recycling policies and the technologies in other countries. The workshop is also intended to establish frame work to receive comments and feedback from all stake holders, such as municipality of Hargeisa, the world bank representative and other stakeholders.

Silatech, Shaqodoon Train Somali Entrepreneurs
Together with Shaqodoon, a youth-serving Somali NGO, Silatech recently concluded a Build Your Business (BYB) curriculum workshop on September 7-8 in Hargeisa, Somaliland.
The training was conducted by Mr. Adnan Qatinah, a master trainer based in Sana’a, Yemen, and participants
included 20 enterprise development trainers from a variety of
youth-focused NGOs working in Somaliland. These trainers will now be
able to implement the Build Your Business curriculum within their own
organizations, enabling hundreds of young Somalis to learn the skills
